Four individuals, a local organization, and two students were honored at the 5th annual Citizens That Care Recognition Reception of the Abington Community Taskforce (ACT). ACT was especially pleased to have Danielle Butler, Senior Director—Alliance Partnerships for America’s Promise—The Alliance for Youth, attend as a special guest and speaker on behalf of Abington having been named one of the “100 Best Communities for Young People” in the United States in 2005. The four honorees, Audrey Krisbergh, Ed Micciolo, Mary Rodgers, and Jim Sheldon, and the organization, the Willow Grove Branch—NAACP, were honored for the many ways in which they have made outstanding efforts to promote the well-being of children and youth and those who support them in the Abington-Rockledge community. Two Abington Senior High School graduating seniors were presented with $500 awards for their noteworthy community service work. ACT Co-Chairs Rosemary Hinkle and Lt. Michael Webb addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of ACT in bringing together its 30 member organizations to form partnerships to provide programs, activities, and services on behalf of youth and their families. Danielle Butler pointed out the significance of an organization such as ACT and explained how America’s Promise views ACT as a model for how a community coalition can lead the way and continue to be relevant and self-sustaining in a community. Abington Police Chief William Kelly and Abington Assistant Superintendent of Schools Dr. Leigh Altadonna served as masters of ceremony, highlighting the accomplishments of each honoree and concluding with the importance of continuing our work to ensure a safe and caring community.
