Recognition Reception Honoree
Robert "Bob" W. White

As Chairman/President and CEO of Abington Bank, Robert "Bob" W. White has taken a leadership role in supporting our community and its youth. Bob grew up in Abington and is a 1962 graduate of Abington High School. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Finance in 1966. After serving two years in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant and serving a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam, Bob moved back to Abington to enter the banking industry in 1970.

Bob has been with Abington Bank since 1974, where he rose within the organization to his present position. Under Bob's leadership, Abington Bank has made a commitment to support many local organizations and activities that benefit the youth of Abington Township and Rockledge Borough, making Abington/Rockledge a better place for its citizens.

Bob is a strong leader who sets the tempo for those with whom he works. He praises "the involvement of the Abington Township Police Department with the Abington School District and youth programs." Believing that "families and business must be committed to making their community a great place to live and work," Bob has led Abington Bank in taking a visionary role in the work of the Abington Community Taskforce, becoming one of its major sponsors.

In addition, through generous grants to ACT's member agencies and their programs that serve the youth of Abington Township, the Bank has been a powerful advocate of ACT's mission of promoting activities that support young people and their families. In this way, it has been a positive force in making the community a safe and healthy place in which children can grow and thrive. ACT member organizations supported by Bob and Abington Bank are Abington YMCA, Abington Bureau of Parks and Recreation, Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington School District, Abington Township, Abington Township Community Relations Committee, Abington Township Police Department, Holy Redeemer Health System, Jenkintown Day Nursery, the Kiwanis Club of Glenside, and the Parenting Center at Abington.

As a member of the Abington Education Foundation, Bob served as co-chair of the Fund-raising Committee. The money raised by this committee enabled the Foundation to benefit thousands of Abington students through the grants issued to their teachers. The grants covered projects not funded by tax dollars.

Under Bob's leadership, Abington Bank has served as a major sponsor of the Basketball Special Athletes program held yearly by the Kiwanis Club of Glenside at the Penn State Abington campus. During the past twenty-five years, nearly 2,500 Special Athletes have been beneficiaries of this event.

Bob is a Trustee of the Abington Memorial Hospital Foundation, an Advisory Board member of Penn State Abington, and an active member of the Jenkintown Rotary and Abington Educational Foundation. In addition, he is involved with various banking industry organizations and trade groups, both locally and on a state level. He is a past president of the Institute of Financial Education, a past president of Insured Financial Institutions of Delaware Valley, a board member of the Mortgage Officers Society, and a board member of the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers.

Bob lives in Huntingdon Valley with his wife, Anne. Bob and Anne have two sons, Todd and Scott, and a granddaughter.
