2007 Recognition
Reception Honoree:
David J. Rondinelli
David Rondinelli has been a resident of Abington Township for
64 years. He owned an automotive business for twenty-three years
and since 1999, he has been a Community Service Officer Supervisor
in the Community Policing Division of the Abington Township Police
Department. Many of Dave’s programs start at work and continue
long after the clock has stopped. He is the Coordinator of the Volunteers
In Policing (VIP) Program, Co-Program Mediator for Neighbor Disputes,
Assistant Chairperson for the No Place for Hate Program, DUI Volunteer
Coordinator, and Coordinator for the Kids In Safety Seats (KISS)
Program. Dave is also strategically involved with the National Child
Identification Program and the National Bike Registry. He is involved
in the Citizens And Police Together, volunteering his time at the
annual 24-Hour Relay Challenge, and the Retired Senior Citizens
Program where he encourages members to participate in community
policing events.
For the past 12 years, Dave has served as President of the Abington
Townwatch Council, coordinating all of their programs. For 20 years,
he has been President of the Abington Radio Emergency Associated
Communication Teams (Abington REACT) and for seven years, chairman
of Pre-Night Out event to raise citizen awareness of crime and teach
families in our community safety procedures to use in case of fire
or other emergencies. Dave is also a volunteer coordinator for PAL
and the Victim Services Unit. He is a member of the Montgomery County
Citizen Corps, American Red Cross and the Southeastern Pennsylvania
Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster.
Dave always makes himself available to lead a tour of students
through the Abington Police Department. His standing offer to “call
me if needed” makes him a regular at the PAL site when volunteers
are needed for a special program or trip. As the Department’s
Volunteer Coordinator, Dave not only assigns volunteers to a program,
he also takes time to make a personal appearance to ensure a proper
fit for the volunteer. Dave also volunteers on a regular basis at
Holland-Glen in Hatboro, a home for ventilator-dependent and medically
complex children and adolescents. He spends many holidays there
distributing smiles.
Dave has received numerous awards including the Pennsylvania Governor’s
Award for Crime Prevention in 1990 and the Pennsylvania Human Relations
Commission Law Enforcement Award in 2006.
What makes Dave stand out in the Abington community is his love
for his community and its citizens. He is a dedicated and hard worker...one
who cares about people in need. He is a positive person who gets
more pleasure in giving than in receiving. One of Dave’s greatest
strengths is his ability to listen effectively. If you call him
with a problem, you know that he has listened to you. Dave believes
that Abington Township and Rockledge Borough are filled with people
who care passionately about this community. His vision is to have
these families teach their children to care as they do now. He also
believes that there should be more family involvement in children’s
activities. One of Dave’s great desires is for the community
to have its own Police Athletic League (PAL) building. He feels
the PAL mission and programs are crucial to the future of our children,
and more programs should be developed to help guide our children
and the families who love and support them.
Dave Rondinelli has a lovely wife, Stephanie, who has been ill
for an extended period of time. He takes excellent care of her.
Dave has three children and four step children who live in the area
and play an important part in his life as do his four grandchildren.
Both Dave and two of his children graduated from Abington High School.
Some of Dave’s other interests are landscape gardening and
maintaining a pond in his perfectly manicured backyard. He enjoys
NASCAR auto racing.
