Recognition
Reception Honoree
Richard
Montalbano
Richard Montalbano,
Vice President of Management Services at Abington Memorial Hospital,
has a long history of contributing to the community. His commitment
to making Abington Township a better place for its residents to
live in stems from his belief that a major part of outstanding citizenship
is how people deal with and help each other.
From an early
age, Rich learned the importance of volunteering and helping others.
He was fortunate to have had a number of mentors during his youth
who demonstrated for him first hand what a difference a concerned
and giving person can make in a young person's life.
In his position
at the hospital, where he has worked for 13 years, Rich has been
instrumental in strongly steering the hospital in directions that
support our community and address its needs. He has consistently
helped to articulate and implement the hospital's philosophy that
a vibrant community requires more than the physical health of its
citizens. His personal philosophy and that of the hospital coincide
in their common belief that the hospital has a responsibility to
be a participating and caring member of the communities it serves.
As the hospital
representative, he has participated with Citizens and Police Together
(C.A.P.T.) and the Economic Development Committee. He has served
on the Boards of the Abington YMCA, the American Red Cross, the
American Lung Association, and the American Heart Association. He
has been critically involved in the hospital's efforts to serve
in times of local disasters, such as the damaging floods the community
has experienced. An advocate within the hospital for the needs of
the community, Rich has been a key figure in developing Abington
Township into a unique community of involved, caring, and cooperative
individuals and agencies.
A thread running
through Rich's life is his belief that individual interests must
be subservient to the common good. He believes that Abington can
be a violence-free community that is also free of substance abuse.
He envisions Abington being a community where our youth are challenged
and prepared to be the leaders of tomorrow. He hopes to find ways
to give our youth more opportunities to learn and understand community
responsibility and to work toward collective purposes.
Rich lives with
his wife Deborah and their 13-year-old son Daniel. His hobbies include
golf, skiing, hiking, and spending precious time with his son.
