Community Service Award Honorees
Kristi
Jewart
From
a very young age, Kristi Jewart has shown an unusually sensitive
heart for the needs of children with special challenges. She has
focused most of her community service on young children and hopes
to teach special education someday. She has helped in Special Education
classes at Springfield High School, helped in a 4th grade classroom
at Highland Elementary School, works with Special Olympics, and
became a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Montgomery
County Elementary School Outreach Program. She is a volunteer ballet
teacher at the YMCA and is a Learning Facilitator at Abington Senior
High School. She also volunteered at Abington Memorial Hospital,
participated in the AIDS walk and collected goods for the September
11th workers. Kristi's biggest undertaking, for her senior project,
was to organize a Halloween party for children at the Salvation
Army's Red Shield Shelter in Philadelphia. She is a member of Abington's
Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD), Friends Against Alcohol and
Drugs (FAAD), and Key Clubs and was involved in Builders Club. She
possesses excellent organizational and planning skills. Kristi is
an open-minded young woman with depth of character, great compassionm
