Recognition
Reception Honoree
Philip "Butch" Beal
Philip "Butch"
Beal is an icon in the Abington community. From ACT's inception
"Butch" has played a major part in various activities
among its members.
At a young age,
Butch was inspired by the coaches and volunteers of the Glenside
Youth Athletic Club. Their devotion spawned in his young mind an
idea of service, which has grown to this day.
Currently owner
of Casual Catering, he has provided food to the Abington 24-Hour
Relay Challenge and for a myriad of Police and School District activities.
In turn, his contributions have led to invitations to participate
on the Board of Directors for D.A.R.E., the 24-Hour Relay Challenge,
C.A.P.T., the Glenside Chamber of Commerce, and the Abington Civil
Service Commission, among many others.
The list of
honors and awards bestowed upon Butch is virtually endless and includes
the 2000 Making A Difference Golden Heart Award, the 1999 Pennsylvania
Judiciary Award from Pennsylvania Courts, the 1996 24-Hour Relay
Challenge Distinguished Service Award, and the 1995 Inter-Service
Award for Distinguished Community Service. Beyond the Abington-Rockledge
community, Butch has tallied an equally impressive array of awards
in Cheltenham Township, Eastern Montgomery County, and the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania. The Bishop McDevitt Alumni Hall of Fame proudly
lists him as a member.
His aspirations
are for a safe, drug-free community where all can live in harmony.
He never said "no" to any activity that leads to the improvement
of the quality of life for all citizens but especially for our young
people.
Butch lives
with his wife Karen and children Philip, Sean, Jimmy, and Katie.
In his relaxation time he enjoys their company, travel, and sports
activities.
