2007 Citizens That Care Recognition Reception

Two individuals, two local organizations, and two students were   honored at the 6th annual Citizens That Care Recognition Reception   of the Abington Community Taskforce (ACT). The four honorees, Audrey   Krisbergh, Ed Micciolo, Mary Rodgers, and Jim Sheldon, and the organization,   the Willow Grove Branch—NAACP, were honored for the many ways   in which they have made outstanding efforts to promote the well-being   of children and youth and those who support them in the Abington-Rockledge   community. Two Abington Senior High School graduating seniors were   presented with $500 awards for their noteworthy community service   work.

ACT Co-Chair Rosemary Hinkle addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of ACT in bringing together its 30 member organizations to collaborate and ensure sufficient opportunities for youth to engage in healthy activities in the Abington-Rockledge community. She highlighted the work of the Teen Council, ACT’s youth voice from more than 60 9th through 12th grade students. She also pointed out the very successful day-long Youth Forum held at Abington High School in March; it was also single-handedly planned and led by the students who produced an impressive list of projects to begin working on this school year.

Abington Police Chief William Kelly and Abington Assistant Superintendent of Schools Dr. Leigh Altadonna served as masters of ceremony, stressing the importance of a coalition such as ACT in view of many recent tragedies, including Nichol Mines school and Virginia Tech. They then highlighted the accomplishments of each honoree. All emphasized that the community’s work on behalf of children, youth, and families must be on-going as there will always be those who struggle with problems but thankfully there are adults who care about their well-being.
