2002 Citizens That Care Recognition Reception

The Abington Community Taskforce held its first annual Citizens That Care Recognition Reception on April 24, 2002 at Lu Lu Country Club in North Hills, Pennsylvania. Members of ACT organizations as well as representatives from other civic, political, religious, and social groups throughout the community attended this gala event.

The event featured Honored Guest and Keynote Speaker Michele M. Ridge, Pennsylvania's former first lady. Abington Township Police Chief William J. Kelly, ACT Co-Chair, served as Master of Ceremonies during the awards presentations. Six community members and organizations were recognized for their spirit of leadership and volunteerism in making Abington and Rockledge a safer, more responsible, and caring community. Mrs. Ridge commended the community for its strengths in the connections it promotes among agencies, organizations, and people. She noted that in her association with the Channing Bete Company as national spokesperson for Communities That Care®, she often cites Abington as an example of a community united in improving the lives of its children.
