Feast of the Epiphany or
Three Kings Day The first day of the Christian church
season of Epiphany occurs the day after the 12th day of Christmas
and is known as Three Kings Day in the Hispanic culture and
parts of Europe. On this day, Christians remember the three
wise men who came to present gifts to the Christ child, thereby
“making know” or “revealing” (the meaning
of the word epiphany) to the world Jesus as Lord and King. |

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
This day observes the birthday of this civil rights
leader, minister, and winner of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize,
who was assassinated April 4, 1968. The people of America are
called to remember the injustices that Dr. King fought and to
continue to right wrongs so that people of all races may enjoy
freedom, equality, and dignity. It is also a time to remember
the message of change through nonviolence. This year’s
theme is: “Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not A Day
Off!” For details of Abington Township’s 22nd Annual
Memorial Service, see “Special Events.” |
