Wednesdays in Lent During the Church season of Lent leading up to Easter Christians may attend special Wednesday Lenten services that focus on this season of reflection and repentance
Lent This 40-day period begins in Western Christian churches on Ash Wednesday and ends on April 11, the Saturday before Easter. In the Roman Catholic Church, Lent ends at sundown on April 9, the Thursday before Easter, with the beginning of the Lord's Supper. Sundays are not counted as part of the 40 days because they commemorate the Resurrection. Lent calls Christians to a period of reflection and repentance in preparation for Easter. |

World Day of Prayer The first Friday of March has been designated World Day of Prayer. It is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions and from more than 170 countries and regions, who come together in places of worship around the world to observe a common day of prayer each year. Men, women, and children are all invited to these services. The same divine service is used in every place. It promotes fellowship, understanding, and action. Check with local churches for area services. This year's theme is "In Christ There Are Many Members Yet One Body" written by the women of Papua New Guinea |

St. Patrick's Day Commemorates the patrol saint of Ireland who served as this country's bishop for 30 years and died on March 17, 461. Originally a Roman Catholic holy day, it has evolved into more of a secular celebration. It has been celebrated in the United States since 1737. A traditional symbol of the day is the shamrock which St. Patrick used to explain the Trinity of how the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity

Palm Sunday is observed by Christians to remember Jesus triumphant arrival at the holy city of Jerusalem. The crowds greeted him by waving palm branches. Today, Christians usually begin Palm Sunday services with a palm procession. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week leading to Easter. |

Passover begins at sunset |
| 30 |
Passover (Pesach), the most important of Jewish festivals, begins at sunset on the 29th and runs through April 6. It is the seven- or eight-day observance—depending on family tradition—commemorating the freedom and exodus of the Israelites (Jewish slaves) from Egypt during the reign of the Pharaoh Ramses II. It is observed with one or more Seder meals filled with ritual. Many Jews keep Passover by refraining from eating certain foods during the days of Passover, including any foods with leavening. Read more in the Bible’s book of Exodus, chapters 1-15. |

Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday is a day when Christians attend services to remember the Last Supper when Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples and gave the sacrament of Holy Communion |
| 2 |
Good Friday, the most somber day of the Christian calendar, is observed by Christians the Friday before Easter and commemorates the crucifixion, death, and entombment of Jesus Christ. While Christians may observe the solemnity of the entire day, many especially focus on the three hours between 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m. when Christ hung on the cross. |
| 3 |
Easter Vigil is observed on the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter. Traditionally, new Christians are baptized at this service. Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil services form the Triduum of Holy Week services |
| 4 |
Easter, the highest point on the Christian calendar, is the celebration of Christ’s resurrection from death to win for the faithful eternal life that is observed the first Sunday following the first full moon that occurs on or after the vernal (spring) equinox |
